Prosecco and rose petals

As an update to the post about lavender and edible flowers, I found some fuchsia sugared rose petals in the Yorkshire delicatessen Lewis & Cooper last week and have been experimenting with these.

Last night we had friends for supper and we tried dropping them into the bottom of glasses of Prosecco.  They sent up thousands of bubbles and gave the drink a very slight aromatic, flowery taste without turning it the colour of an alcopop.  Triumph at last!  Not the most macho of aperitifs, admittedly, but kind of fun.

'Eat-Me!' sugared rose petals

The petals are made by Uncle Roy's Comestible Concoctions and are called 'Eat-Me!'.  They come in lovely little hexagonal jars and you can also get lavender, cornflower, violets and rose petals among others.  I thought they might be nice on cupcakes as well.
