Mark's Bar

If you're seeking a cocktail experience which makes you feel like a minor celebrity, go somewhere else. This offers something altogether more satisfying.

Not far from the madding crowds of Piccadilly, Mark's is downstairs from Mark Hix's restaurant in Soho. We went there last night and it's a little gem. Unlike the other high-octane London bars of it's ilk it was unexpectedly down to earth: decorated with leather sofas and stools by the bar, idiosyncratic bottles and jars and a pleasantly dimly lit interior. It also has an amazing cocktail menu as well (similar to the Coburg Bar), full of old fashioned curios and modern creations. The ones we tried were well made and the flavours subtle. And to eat there were bowls of chips or a generous hunk of Oyster Ale fruit cake and wedge of Blue Monday cheese. Better than hummus and limp pitta any day. A lovely chilled bar for a discerning drink.
